The Greater Southwest Optimist Club (GSWOC) will host their Annual Scholarship Gala in February. The club, since its inception, has recognized the importance of education and the work of educators in molding the future of our youth. In keeping with that tradition, each year at the gala the club presents the “Excellence in Education” award to a deserving person in the educational field.
Over the past 40 years with the help of the local community, the GSWOC has been able to raise funds and issue over $500,000 in educational scholarships to deserving high school seniors in the Austin metropolitan area. Many of these recipients are the first generation to attend college. The scholarships go to students who have met detailed qualifying criteria of community service, financial need, hardship, and academic achievement. Funds derived from the gala will assist scholarship recipients in achieving their educational goals.
Support from individuals and businesses have been the key to many students’ progress in higher education. Consider being a sponsor by making a monetary donation, by donating an item for the auction, or by reserving a table at the event. We look forward to seeing you at the gala for an evening of fun and celebration!
